Being a parent can be one of the hardest things somebody will ever do. You are responsible for raising a child, taking care of them, and a number of other responsibilities. Both fathers and mothers have different roles when it comes to raising a child/children. Let’s look at a few examples the bible gives for a father.
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4. We are to love our child/children. Correcting them when they do something bad, or something they are not supposed to. Not letting anger consume us when we do. Teaching them the word and living by our example. Encouraging them to live by the word as they get older. Hopefully one day they too will obey the Gospel and become a Christian by being baptized. After becoming a Christian, continue encouraging them as their father and Christian brother.
We are commanded to provide for our family, 1 Timothy 5:8.
In Luke 15:11-32. It shows, even after leaving home and committing sins, the father was overjoyed to see his son since he asked for forgiveness. He was lost, but now found. If your child/children does fall away, we must be joyous if they do return, ask for our forgiveness, repented for that sin(s), and prayed to the Lord to be forgiven, not hold it against them. If they don’t recognize the sins they committed, show them through God’s word what they did was/is sinful. Encourage them to study it too and pray they will have strength to overcome that sin. We all have sinned, Romans 3:23. We must encourage each other to stay as strong as possible and forgive each other, when we do fall short.
Being a Christian father can and will be challenging. We are blessed to have God’s word on what we are to do and not to do. We are blessed to have the ability and encouraged to pray, John 14:13-14. Christian fathers can also reach out to other Christian fathers for strength, encouragement, and ask questions.
